Operating as Malaysia's national applied research and development centre, MIMOS' approach to innovation is market-oriented.Thillai Raj T. Ramanathan as Chief Technology Officer leads strategic initiatives, oversees corporate R&D strategies, company-wide research and technology and product development activities.The Teleprimary Care and Oral Health Clinical Information System represents a recent example of innovation, through the creation of a clinical information system for health and dental outpatient treatments.Developed in partnership between Malaysia Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Health and MIMOS, the system supports the National Digital Health Reform initiative to improve population health and reduce the burden of disease.Delivered through an integrated system, the platform encompasses cloud computing, edge technologies, big data analytics, security and the Internet of Things, comprising of 11 in-market patents.Other key initiatives sanctioned by Ramanathan include the Malaysian Health Data Warehouse, a national healthcare information gathering and reporting system covering all government and private healthcare facilities and services.This is alongside SMART (self-monitoring analytics reporting technology) Lock-Up, a video surveillance solution for lock-up environments. The solution can detect suspicious activities based on the movement and behaviour of the object in the lock-up cell and is now operational in the Jinjang Central Lock-up, the largest lock-up in Malaysia.Furthermore, the system has also been rolled out to 58 lock-ups in the country, with plans in place to deploy across all 704 lock-ups during a phased approach.Ramanathan adheres to MIMOS's guiding principle for R&D, which prioritises the development of cutting-edge technologies which are “market-oriented and needs driven”.
