Housing more than 8,000 artworks, the National Gallery Singapore oversees the world's largest public collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art.Blending heritage surroundings in the heart of the Civic District, two monumental buildings – the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings – have been restored to create a modern art centre. This is a forward-looking museum with a progressive approach to technology.Central to achieving such ambitions is artificial intelligence (AI), heralded by Dr Victor Tong, Chief Digital and Information Officer at the cultural institution, as housing “tremendous potential” to disrupt core business processes and enterprise operations.To improve operational efficiency, Dr Tong deployed an AI sales assistant to handle an increase in venue rental requests, which had reached “bulk volume” capacity.The assistant communicates with venue rental requests over email, identifying potential leads and passing them through to the venue rental team.Since deployment, the AI-enabled assistant has “greatly reduced” the time taken by employees to screen through mass emails and notifications, increasing venue rental revenue by more than 40 per cent in the process.
